Gloomy Toons was born as a multiplayer mobile game based on splatter fights between cute puppies. The initial concept is inspired by the animated series Happy Tree Friends. During production, the mechanics developed and some team technical limitations changed the direction of the project, transforming it into something much more fitting to the tastes of the production team than the initial concept.

GT has become what you can try in the link below, heavily inspired by some mechanics of The Binding Of Isaac, Rogue Legacy and Metal Slug.
The most interesting features that I helped design for the game from a technical point of view are:
• the Minos System, which allows you to assemble infinite procedural levels composed of n rooms populated with objects, enemies, traps, collectibles and consumables.
• Modular enemies, monsters composed of modular and interchangeable heads and bodies. Each module carries specific behaviors and characteristics, allowing the game engine to compose hundreds of possible combinations.

In addition there are several mechanics of progression in the game, collecting, customization of puppies and daily retention. Finally, as you will see in the following pages, I have also created the entire visual contents of the game.

Unfortunately, GT never made it past its beta stage. After an initial post-launch boost, also due to participation in the Milan Games Week 2020 in the indie section, production of the game has been discontinued. Despite the lack of true gameplay balance and the necessary repetition for initial testing purposes, Gloomy Toons remains one of the most complex and complete games developed with 404 Gamez, and the one with my greatest artistic and game design participation.
Development took about one year.
